Project Summary:  Residential Development – External Metalwork
 

MK Metals Ltd were appointed to deliver a package of external architectural metalwork in support of a residential development within the Woodstock estate. The works were designed to complement the architectural character of the development while meeting the durability and performance requirements of a high-quality residential environment.

 

Scope of Works
  • External metal staircases serving residential properties

  • Estate fencing to residential boundaries and wider site perimeter

  • Metal gates providing secure access and boundary definition

 

Standards & Compliance

All metalwork was designed, fabricated, and installed in accordance with relevant British Standards and statutory requirements, including:

 

  • BS EN 1090 – Execution of steel structures

  • UKCA compliance with full material traceability

  • BS 6180 – Barriers and guarding where applicable

  • Building Regulations, including Approved Documents K and M where relevant

  • Protective finishes specified in line with BS EN ISO 12944 for corrosion protection

 

All works were delivered in coordination with the project design team to ensure full compliance, safety, longevity, and alignment with architectural intent.

Project Summary:  Education Development – Architectural Metalwork
 

MKMetals Ltd have been entrusted with the architectural metalwork package for St Thomas’s London Day Schools, Atlantic House, a landmark education scheme integrating historic structures within a dense urban environment. The works involve delivering high-quality, secure, and visually refined metalwork solutions while respecting site constraints, heritage considerations, and enhanced energy performance objectives.

 

The external works strategy places strong emphasis on boundary definition, safety, and architectural quality. Landscaping and metalwork elements have been carefully coordinated to reduce noise impact, ensure privacy and security, and enhance the character of the school’s frontage. Decorative and heritage-style metalwork contributes to a distinctive identity while remaining sympathetic to the surrounding residential context.

Scope of Works
  • Architectural metalwork to external boundaries and landscaped interfaces

  • Decorative and heritage-style fencing and railings, including panels incorporating the Thomas’s Day School logo

  • Double handrails with integrated LED lighting to circulation routes and access points

  • Automated main vehicle entrance gates, integrated with access control systems

  • Numerous pedestrian access gates and fire escape / emergency access gates

  • Guardrails and handrails to external walkways, steps, and changes in level

  • Coordination with masonry plinth walls, natural stone coping, and landscaping works

All architectural metalwork is designed, fabricated, and installed in accordance with relevant British Standards, statutory requirements, and project specifications, including:

 

  • BS EN 1090 – Execution of steel and aluminium structures

  • UKCA compliance with full material certification and traceability

  • BS 6180 – Barriers and guarding

  • Protective finishes specified in line with BS EN ISO 12944 for corrosion protection

  • Integrated electrical elements coordinated to applicable standards for lighting and automation

Project Summary:  Residential Conversion – Architectural Metalwork

MKMetals Ltd have been appointed to deliver the architectural metalwork package for Aviator 1, a major residential conversion project transforming a vacant office building into 174 new residential apartments. The scheme forms part of a wider initiative to increase housing provision, delivering high-quality homes within an existing urban structure.

The redevelopment includes a comprehensive refurbishment of existing circulation elements alongside the introduction of new architectural metalwork installations. MK Metals Ltd’s scope supports the building’s change of use while ensuring compliance, safety, and modern residential standards throughout the development.

Scope of Works
  • Refurbishment of existing staircases, including handrails and balustrades

  • Supply and installation of new staircases serving additional residential levels

  • New handrails and balustrades throughout communal and circulation areas

  • Coordination of metalwork interfaces within an existing structure

  • Fabrication and installation to suit increased occupancy and residential use
