In early 2023, MKMetals Ltd was awarded the contract for the structural steelwork and architectural metalwork involved in transforming the historic St Bartholomew’s Hospital into modern residential apartments. Founded in 1078, St Bartholomew’s Hospital is a key landmark in Rochester's history. The existing building, constructed in 1861, required the use of robust materials to ensure that the new living spaces could endure significant wear while maintaining the historical integrity of the site.

The goal of the project was to harmoniously integrate contemporary living with the rich heritage of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, ensuring that the renovation honored the building's illustrious past. MKMetals Ltd's proficiency in structural and architectural metalwork played a vital role in striking a balance between modern design elements and the preservation of historical features. This project not only rejuvenated the site but also added to the evolving story of Rochester's architectural heritage.

Throughout the conversion process, the emphasis remained on selecting high-quality materials that met the practical needs of residential living while complementing the aesthetic qualities of the historic building. The partnership between MKMetals Ltd and the various project stakeholders was crucial in addressing the challenges of such a significant renovation. Ultimately, this project exemplified a considerate approach to updating a beloved landmark while respecting its historical significance.
