REMBRANDT HOUSE
MK Metals Ltd was entrusted with the contract to supply and install all architectural metalwork in partnership with Henley Homes Group PLC.
Rembrandt House in Watford had remained largely unoccupied for almost two decades, resulting in significant of its Edwardian façade.
We were commissioned by Henley Homes to aid the facilitation of the careful restoration of the building and to develop 46 one-, two-, and three-bedroom.
Our designs were crafted to honour the historic integrity of the original structure while accommodating essential structural modifications, including the introduction of an additional mezzanine level within the existing roof space.

BAYLISS OLD SCHOOL
Lilian Baylis School in Lambeth was closed in 2005, shortly after being awarded grade II listed status. Following years of neglect, the site was acquired by Henley Homes in 2011 and has since been redeveloped into a residential community comprising 149 new homes, with 40% classified as affordable.
In partnership with Henley Homes, MKMetals Ltd was entrusted with the architectural metalwork package for the regeneration of Lilian Baylis School, now known as Lilian Bayliss Old School.
MKMetals Ltd implemented enhancements to the facades while preserving the original architectural integrity.
The courtyards continue to feature brick wings accentuated by horizontal concrete channels and expansive window openings.
Balconies were integrated where the concrete channel extends notably from the building, and former classroom sill levels were adjusted to accommodate floor-to-ceiling glazing for improved access.
To mitigate cold bridging between the external concrete elements and the interior spaces, additional boxed insulation channels were incorporated beneath the horizontal concrete, subtly modifying the elevations while respecting their original character.
Access to the flats is facilitated by staircase cores serving up to four properties per floor, largely preserving the original circulation layout of the school and minimizing the need for communal corridors.
The retained staircases are sculptural in nature, showcasing elegantly curving concrete designs that complement the minimalist retro chic aesthetic of the exteriors. MKMetals Ltd designed, fabricated, and installed new stair balustrades that align seamlessly with the existing staircases.
