St Barts

Completion 2023

At the beginning of 2023, MKMetals Ltd secured the contract for structural steelwork and architectural metalwork related to the conversion of the historic St Bartholomew’s Hospital into contemporary residential flats. Established in 1078, St Bartholomew’s Hospital holds a prominent place in Rochester's history. The existing hospital structure, built in 1861, necessitated the use of durable materials for its redevelopment into living spaces that would withstand significant wear while preserving the site's historical significance.

The project aimed to blend modern living with the rich heritage of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, ensuring that the transformation respected the building's storied past. MKMetals Ltd's expertise in structural and architectural metalwork was crucial for achieving a balance between contemporary design and the preservation of historical elements. This endeavor not only revitalized the site but also contributed to the ongoing narrative of Rochester's architectural landscape.

As the conversion progressed, the focus remained on utilizing high-quality materials that aligned with both the functional requirements of residential living and the aesthetic values of the historic structure. The collaboration between MKMetals Ltd and the project stakeholders was essential to navigate the complexities of such a significant renovation. Ultimately, this initiative represented a thoughtful approach to modernizing a cherished landmark while honoring its legacy.
